KAHUHO-INI, 26 July 2026 – The Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church (KELC) celebrated a historic milestone with the official inauguration of the Mt. Kenya Deanery during a special worship service held at Kahuho-ini Parish. The occasion brought together clergy, church leaders, delegates, and Christians from across the Church in a joyful celebration of faith, unity, and servant leadership.

The service was presided over by Bishop Catherine Ngina Musau, Bishop of the Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church (KELC), and was graced by the presence of Assistant Bishop Rev. Dominic Nyambisa, together with pastors and church leaders from various parishes. Their presence reflected the unity of KELC and its shared commitment to strengthening the Church's ministry.
A major highlight of the day was the official inauguration of the Mt. Kenya Deanery and the installation of its leadership. During the service:
- Rev. John Murimi Kariuki was installed as the Dean of Mt. Kenya Deanery.
- Rev. Purity Wanja Mugo was installed as the Assistant Dean.
The installation was marked by prayers, the laying on of hands, and words of encouragement, commissioning the newly installed leaders to faithfully shepherd God's people, uphold the teachings of Christ, and lead with wisdom, humility, and integrity.
The worship service was spiritually enriched by uplifting hymns and inspiring presentations from the NILC Choir, whose ministry created an atmosphere of praise and thanksgiving throughout the celebration. Secretary General Jonathan Kapanga read the Constitution of the Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church and formally outlined the duties, responsibilities, and expectations of the newly installed Dean and Assistant Dean. In his address, he reminded them that the offices they had accepted are sacred callings that require unwavering faith, servant leadership, and complete dedication to the mission of Christ and the life of the Church. He emphasized the importance of upholding the Constitution of KELC, faithfully carrying out their responsibilities with integrity, humility, transparency, and accountability, and serving as faithful stewards of the trust placed in them by God and the Church. He further encouraged the new leaders to foster unity among the congregations within the Mt. Kenya Deanery, support the spiritual growth of the faithful, promote sound doctrine, and work closely with the Church's leadership in advancing the vision and mission of KELC. His address served as both a solemn constitutional charge and a spiritual commission, inspiring the newly installed leaders to carry out their ministry with wisdom, courage, and a steadfast commitment to God's calling.
Rev. John Murimi Kariuki – Dean, Mt. Kenya Deanery
Upon his installation as Dean of the Mt. Kenya Deanery, Rev. John Murimi Kariuki was entrusted with the responsibility of providing spiritual and administrative leadership to the deanery. As Dean, he will work closely with pastors and congregations to strengthen pastoral ministry, foster unity among the parishes, encourage evangelism and discipleship, and support the implementation of the Church's vision and mission. His installation marks the beginning of a new chapter of servant leadership as he leads the deanery in proclaiming the Gospel and nurturing the spiritual growth of God's people.
Rev. Purity Wanja Mugo – Assistant Dean, Mt. Kenya Deanery
Rev. Purity Wanja Mugo was installed as the Assistant Dean of the Mt. Kenya Deanery, assuming a key leadership role in supporting the Dean and serving the congregations within the deanery. She is entrusted with assisting in pastoral oversight, coordinating ministry activities, encouraging collaboration among the parishes, and strengthening the Church's mission through faithful service. Her installation reflects KELC's commitment to empowering dedicated leaders who will serve God's people with humility, compassion, and unwavering faith.
The inauguration of the Mt. Kenya Deanery marks an important step in KELC's continued growth and mission.
