“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.” — Psalm 127:1
NAMELOK, Kwale County — 22 October 2026: The Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church (KELC) has laid the foundation stone for a new worship hall at Namelok Congregation, Naserian Parish. Since its establishment in 2023, the congregation has worshipped in the open, gathering under trees in one of Kwale County’s most remote areas.
Namelok lies in the interior of the Maasai-speaking area west of Lungalunga, near the Kenya–Tanzania border and within the broader southern coastal region served through Mombasa. Its isolation has not diminished the congregation’s commitment to the Gospel; instead, members who are pastoralists and nomads have taken the initiative to build a permanent place of worship through their own sacrificial giving.
The construction of the church hall is approximately 65 per cent complete, thanks to internal fundraising and contributions from congregation members. The walls are now standing. However, the congregation urgently needs support to roof the building to protect them from the hot burning sun and before the anticipated El Niño rains disrupt outdoor worship and expose members - especially children, older persons, and those with limited mobility-to harsh weather.

Church Leadership Leads Ceremony:
The foundation-stone ceremony was led by KELC Bishop, the Rev. Catherine Ngina, and Deputy Bishop, the Rev. Dominic Nyambisa. Also present were KELC Secretary General Jonathan Kapanga; Head of the South Coast Deanery and host, Deacon Paul Lemle; and church staff from the Southern Deanery.
Members of Namelok Congregation, including many children, gathered at the construction site to witness the historic ceremony.A commemorative plaque was placed at the building to mark this significant milestone in the congregation’s journey of faith.
A Congregation Building in Faith:
Namelok Congregation began in 2023 under Naserian Parish. Despite limited financial resources, its members have chosen not to wait for outside assistance alone.

An Appeal to Well-Wishers
The Namelok Congregation through KELC respectfully appeals to well-wishers, partners, friends of the Church, and all people of goodwill to willingly support them in completing the roof of its worship hall.
Every contribution -whether financial, material, technical, or prayerful-will help protect a young but committed congregation from weather disruption and enable it to continue its ministry without interruption.Support can be directed through the Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church, Naserian Parish, or the South Coast Deanery.
Your partnership will not merely complete a building; it will help secure a spiritual home for a remote community that has faithfully gathered under trees since 2023.
Seminar and Parish Programme:
The ceremony was followed by a seminar for church members focusing on Lutheran teachings (Ulutheri), Christian leadership, and Christian living.
The three-day programme in Naserian Parish began on Thursday, 22 October 2026, with the foundation-stone-laying ceremony at Namelok Congregation.
